Horror Central: Gravy

Sup! Today I'm going to talk about a rather...interesting horror comedy called Gravy. The plot involves a group of co-workers at a mexican restaurant ends up being taken hostage by a gang of cannibals. Its that kind of a movie but it's crazy as fuck!

To the newcomers, how I review a horror movie is usually based on a few things: The tone, the characters. the general horror atmosphere, and the killer or killers in general. I'd say spook factor but it wasn't this movie's intention and the director stated as so. I admire a director with that kind of honesty TBH.

In the beginning the movie waste no time in establishing the characters/victims. They're not just co-workers but they're clearly one big family. And the interactions shown that they have eachother's backs. I also like that they have their own distinct personality that sets them apart from one another. If I had to pick a personal favorite among the victims, mine would be the French Chef. Especially how he stick it to one of the killers towards the final act. Yeah it cost him his life but at least he took one of the killers down with him.

Of course the victims weren't perfect. They have their share of flaws but in a manner that is somewhat believable. And not irritating to a point that I wished they'd die.

As far as the killers go. For a group of cannibals, they were pretty entertaining. Through most parts of the movie I was a little disturbed by the fact that I started to like them. Even the female member of the group who reminds me of Meryl from The Walking Dead. A racist prick and doesn't give zero fucks what you think regardless of the fact. Who can go from affible to faux affible at the drop of a hat. Who comes off as a love child of Harley Quinn and Catwoman.

Overall I give the movie an B. Imagine 31 but with a much lower budget. It even has a monster clown. Who ended up being the formidable one of the group. Who is gener savvy as hell. You know how in every movie a protagonist does a badass one liner before they kill the bad guy? The monster clown was smart enough to take advantage of that.

I'd say, give the movie a watch.

My Thoughts On Riverdale: The CW Adaptation Of Archie

Going to be honest. I never had any emotional attachment to the Archie Comics. To me it was Happy Days minus The Fonz. Wow, do I feel old after saying that. But lets face facts. This isn't the first time the comic has taken a radical adaptation change. The first weird one was an animated adaptation called Archie's Weird Mysteries. Think Scooby Doo meets Buffy The Vampire Slayer. With a touch of Twin Peeks. Even in the comics it had Archie crossing over with The Punisher and The Predator....Let that sink in. Hell in some of the recent comics it had the gang battling a zombie apocalypse!!! So my thoughts in regards to the CW adaptation?

There are two directions this series can go. And one of them I hope its where the series will go. Go full on soap opera, even with it's dark tone, it shouldn't be afraid to go crazy. Throw in some possible supernatural elements, maybe even have the gang fight zombies. Go to town, series! Because the comics have done its share of crazy shit too. So don't hold back. Embrace the crazy. Or it can be as frustrating to watch as Arrow.

The bottom line. It should be it's own thing. If there is anything the Archie Comics has going for it is that it gives anyone to take whatever liberties they can out of it. Lets face it the comic lacks a core plot, other than that infamous love triangle, to begin with. You could give the entire cast super powers and it wouldn't hurt it one bit. I think Archie did just that, awhile back.

I'm actually rooting for the series to be a success. Because I want a CW adaptation of Sabrina: The Teenage Witch!

My Thoughts On The X-Men Franchise

This is basically my off script, going through the motions, discussions on X-Men and all it's variations. And how I feel about said franchise.

I personally find the X-Men Franchise as the best example of how to modernize the superhero genre into a more science fiction setting. While the X-Characters do run around in trademark uniforms it never felt like a standard superhero series when compared to the other Marvel superhero series. If I had to describe the concept of X-Men it would be; What if super powers really exist? It also wasn't afraid to deal with some of the real life issues that were going on at the time, and still are. Especially with the Mutant gene being an allegory of race and homosexuality.

What made the X-Men work was how it didn't follow the typical Black and White moral that the superhero comics would follow. There wasn't a clear cut hero or villain, unless your name is Sinister and Apoc as far as the latter go. And a few others. Each of the X-Men had their own sense of flaws that they want to overcome as well as their own inner demons they wish to fight. No wonder why Spider-Man worked so well with them. Because Peter Parker was just a regular guy with super powers. When written by writers who know how to write him.

I remember my first exposure with the franchise. It was the 90's X-Men. That was the moment I had such a huge crush on Storm and Rogue. Then, when I've read the comics, Kitty Pryde became my favorite character. But the 90's X-Men TV series were what I've considered to be the X-Comics in animated form. No X-Series on the face of the earth will mimic the greatness of that show. Eventhough there are some parts of it that are dated.

X-Men Evolution was my second favorite. It had what was the best version of Wolverine I've seen. Eventhough Jackverine is a guilty pleasure of mine. And my all time favorite episode was the debut of X-23. While I was sad that it got cancelled at least it actually got some closure.

My third favorite was the anime version of X-Men. I thought the big bad sucked but the U-Men was pretty dangerous and I felt the anime would have been an awesome series. A shame it ended on a sequel hook that never came to pass.

I have a love/hate relationship with the movies. My favorite X-Films are probably X-2, First Class, Deadpool, and The Wolverine. I'm of the minority that I thought the films handled what the X-Franchise should have been. A stand alone franchise. Because if you connect it to the MCU then it just becomes a mess.

And that is why I felt the comics are suffering. Imagine if it were a stand alone story with no status quo? We'd be seeing the three part story structure; A beginning, a middle, and an end. And I think the franchise is suffering because of the neverending narrative.

Justice Patrol: Future Pairings

It may not fully come to pass since the characters have developed to the point that I just chronicle their adventures, I have no control over their destiny. <_> But here's an outline of future pairings regarding the group.

Flannery/Hank: The Official Couple. They have been since day one and honestly I couldn't think of anyone else. No matter the ship tease. Also they've been through so much to not go down this route.

Matthew/Dinah: For the same reasons.

Now the next few could surprise some.

Violet/Hiro: Not the detective! The other Violet. There was a subtle hint. Hiro's still gay but it's more of a Chasing Amy type of relationship. And I don't think it will be a permanent one. Don't worry, they will find someone down the road.

Cleric and Black Knight: I bet some of you thought it would be Knight and Archmage did ya? They're more like heterosexual life partners. Cleric and Black Knight has been developed enough for this to work.

I'm thinking of a one night stand between Raven and Venus but that I'll have to ask my better half.

Wendy and Captain Nemesis: What can I say? They're cute together. Also, The Princess and The Rogue is a classic concept.

Sura and Dude: It's a good thing Dude's a speedster. He's gonna need the stamina.

Adrian & Amazonia:Possible crack but could work.

How To Beat Writers Block

As a writer I've come up with this kind of problem and some of the people would advise to not write. Basically telling you to just give up. Anyone who'd suggest this is full of BS and is not that much of a writer. Period.

The best advice I can give would be an advise that a writer once said; take the last line of dialogue a character has said and do the opposite. You'd ask yourself why the character would say that and it takes the character into a more interesting direction than you originally intend.

My method is if you're hitting a creative wall then write a random event and keep on writing till your character gets himself or herself out of it. Say your scene is just a character walking down the street? Your random scene could be him witnessing a mugging, encountering a creepy stalker, witness someone jumping off of a building. Damn, talk about dark. Yet with this you've just turned your character's common routine upside down and now it's time to see how the character adapts to it.

I also heard of character journals. Make a journal told by the character that narrates his day to day life. It might give you inspiration for your story.

I'd also recommend finding inspiration in movies and tv. The majority of my characters are usually inspired off of that. When I was working on CAU Legacy my character Flannery was what you'd get if Buffy Summers had super powers. I also tweaked Jennifer's character in; What if Joyce Summers knew about her daughter's lifestyle? And she's a cop.

There are many ways to get out of writers block. It all boils down to how determined a person is to beat it.

Does Making The Protagonist Lose Hurt The Character?

We all love our underdog story, a scrappy protagonist who'd climb up the latter and defy all odds. But what if they didn't? What if the underdog loses? Would it hurt the character?

It can be a double-edged sword. If you have a character win alot then it becomes predictable. The audience are no longer invested because they know the character is going to overcome each obstacle. But if you have the character lose everytime then audiences sees the character as you've written him, a loser. An example on the former, Goku from Dragonball. An example on the latter, the heroes of Young Justice.

A hero can look good, even in defeat, as long as you have the hero likable enough and showcase him working his butt off to achieve a victory.

In the first Rocky film it did Rocky's underdog story pretty well. You can sympathize Rocky's shortcomings and he knows full well that he couldn't defeat Apollo. His only hope is going the distance. Yet whenever he comes close to beating him you'd find yourself cheering Rocky on. Adrian viewing the fight was clearly her channeling the movie viewing audience. When it was all over, Rocky won the public over. Even in defeat.

As a writer I'm a firm believer in making my characters earn their victories. To use Rocky as an example again, he had a rematch against Apollo Creed. What I liked about this rematch was Apollo was taking this rematch seriously and once Rocky got his head in the game he took it seriously too. And he earned that victory against Apollo.

So it doesn't hurt in having your character lose a battle. As long as you don't make your character too pathetic in the process. Because, when that character eventually earns a victory, his victory will be glorious.

Making A Work of Fiction Original

It can be hard to come up with something original. Especially as everything has been done before. Just when you think you've come up with a unique idea you realize that your unique idea has been used before.

What makes an idea unique is how a writer takes a common concept and tweak it into something that isn't used often. Using a persona example my series A Heroes Journey takes place in a world where the majority of the population has super powers. Non-Powered individuals exist but they don't go out and become superheroes like the powered ones do and it's the Non-Powered individual who are the minority. And what I did was taking something common within the superhero genre but made it a little unique.

Another method is taking something from real life and use it as a base of inspiration. It could be something from the news or a work of history. But just be careful. You don't want it to be too similar.

I also would use something from mythology & folklore as inspiration. There are a lot of unique things you could find there and it would come in handy when you want to make a unique fantasy creature,

Horror Central: The Funhouse Massacre

I'll give the movie this. It did live up to it's title. There was a funhouse and there was a massacre.....yet the killers were a little pathetic.

Don't get me wrong the movie does a good job in playing up the old school horror tropes and I love the fact that there's practical blood and gore. While the killers had a very cool build up and their backstories were neat I personally find them to be too much hype and not enough back up. Unfortunately, they got by because their victims were....idiots.

I mean they were killing people in full display yet the people took their sweet ass time to put two and two together and say "HOLY SHIT! THIS IS FUCKING REAL!!!!!"

The psychos could be holding a sign up that reads : "We really are killers, dumb shits" and they'd still believe it's all part of the show.

But that ain't the tip of the stupid iceberg. The movie seems to have one particular character that honestly took me out of the movie. The Idiot Cop. There is a name for this kind of character, he's called The Jar Jar. He's the comic relief character that you're supposed to laugh with but instead you just want him to die horribly. On both occasions I've been rooting for the psycho clown to kill him. To his credit he wasn't an asshole character. He was just your typical bumbling cop who probably would have worked better in a bumbling cop movie. But never in a horror movie!!!

I've seen The Fool characters like him before. But most of the time they're endering. Like Marty from Cabin In The Woods. It helps that Marty can be surprisingly smart when he has to be.

But what really pissed me off was how he outlived this badass lady cop during the final act. I was like....ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!!!!!! And he survived Rocco, twice. He even succeeded in putting him down. And got a one liner afterwards. He wishes he were John McClane.

I just find it interesting that these psychos succeeded in killing so many people but they couldn't kill this one character whose so stupid that he'd trip into some death trap. Ugh!

There is one character that I like though. Machete! He was a comic relief character done right. For one, he isn't a fucking dumbass. The guy was surprisingly genre savvy. He didn't go with the group to that funhouse because he had a bad vibe about the place. The only reason he went back was because he encountered one of the Funhouse victims. And from that point on he took several levels of badass! Also, he survived!

I like that the main characters have surprisingly heroic traits. Like how the main girl saved the victim from that dentist. Least till dumbass cop shot the victim. *bangs head on desk* And when members of their crew died they actually gave a shit. I'd even credit dumbass cop in feeling bad when his partner died. That motivated him to kill Rocco.

So overall I give the movie a D+. Nice old school horror callbacks and good characters who gave a shit if someone died and would actually try to save someone. Too bad it was weight down by an unnecessary dumb comic relief and psycho killers who were appallingly incompetent. Say what you will about some of the Heads in 31 but at least they get the job done. Well Doom-Head does anyway.

Guardians of The Galaxy Should Be A Stand Alone Film

The movie, IMO, is polarizing at best and I consider it an average movie. I do consider Guardians as close to an 80's Space Opera homage as I can get. And if it fixes a few problems then we'd have a pretty good space opera film. The best approach should be distancing itself from the other Marvel films as far as possible.

It's like the age-old debate of should X-Men crossover with the MCU? Some say Yay while others feel that its better off on its own. To me X-Men is better off establishing its own world, cramming itself into the MCU would just make the continuity all the more messed up. Also, the MCU has already developed to the point that incorporating the X-Men would just be silly now.

Marvel Comics have enough science fiction history that Guardians is capable of establishing it's own world and not have to piggyback off of the previous MCU films to do so. Guardians should have their own recurring big bad that the group alone has to defeat rather than saving said big bad for The Avengers or something. Honestly, with the right person and development, I'd be more interested in Thanos being established as the big bad for the Guardians of The Galaxy crew and the group working to defeat him. I'd much rather see a trilogy of GOTG movies that develops to that point. Unfortunately, that can't happen due to the whole Infinity Gems thing. If you think about it, since the majority of the crew's backstories are connected to Thanos then having him be the soul villain the crew has to defeat sounds like a better storytelling scenario than Thanos just being a one off Avengers villain. At least with Thanos being the antagonist to the GOTG it provides some personal conflict. What made the first Avengers movie work is that there was personal conflict between The Avengers and Loki. In Infinity War, Thanos would be some guy the group has to beat.

So yeah, I'm in the minority that future films should only focus on establishing the group and the sci-fi universe the film is based in.

The Concept Behind Noble Demons

I was binge watching Breaking Bad and I just find it interesting how the series would showcase what a criminal would be like behind the scenes. And much like Breaking Bad I want to showcase exactly what a super villain would be behind closed doors. Some of them are nice enough that you'd forget they're a super villain while others are flat out monsters. And there are those that are a combination of the two.

In Noble Demons we follow a character named Lucas Lovecraft who comes from a family of super villains. His father and mother are known super-villains named The Antagonist and Equilibrium; Influence wise what if Walter White grew up to become a villainous Reed Richards while he ends up marrying Jean Grey. Who also turned rogue.

Like any regular person, Lucas wants to be his own man. So he sets off to start his own villainous empire by using a combination of his own scientific knowledge and supernatural powers he'd like to call "The Eldritch".

Note: The series in question takes place in the City of Adventure Universe

How I Would Have Progressed Arrow Season 2 & Beyond

Arrow is quite a controversial series and that is about as nice of a way to describe it. Now I'm not going to go into a full-length description of how I'll fix Arrow because that would take forever. So I'm just going to do an abridged version of the topic.

To start things off I'm going to kill Malcolm off in Season 1. If he died then he would have made a better impact in death than in life. Also his poison wouldn't have seeped into future seasons.

After that I would have developed Oliver into a hero who'd kill but only as a last resort. And the death of Tommy would have triggered that. Everything in Season 2 would still be in full effect. Although I would change it that, while Laurel would still be shocked in Sara being alive, she'd gradually try and make some attempt in rebuilding their relationship. Laurel will also have a side arc of her rising in political power. Because not every character needs to dress as a vigilante to take a level in badass. Also, there were hints of this but became dropped because...reasons. Because in my version the female characters aren't just token damsels in distress. They do shit.

Outside of the Miuraku Arc there won't be super powered individuals in Arrow unless I'd want to use that as an excuse to do a crossover involving Green Arrow and Flash. Arrow will be used to showcase street level heroes and villains. Much like how Marvel's Daredevil do their characters.

Thea would have her own side arc. As she's working for Laurel she develops her own detective skills. She'd also be getting her own share of training from Sara. Because, despite her investigation, she knows that she'd get her ass handed to her in a fight. In fact the first scene of the second season would be Oliver revealing his secret to Thea. It would be awkward but it would inspire her to want to do some good also.

I'd also scrap the whole Thea being Merlyn's daughter subplot. That was shit.

I'd keep Felicity but she'd be used in small doses. While she's a good hacker it wont be to the extreme levels that the show did. And, personality wise, she's close to her seasons 1 & 2 character. Also, she and Oliver won't be a couple. That was how this whole downward spiral got started. Oliver and Felicity work better as a sibling like duo. And that's how they shall be.

Oliver's primary arc would be maturing his character, he makes mistakes but he'd learn from them. It's his way to atone for how he failed with Tommy that resulted in his death. And his past history with Waller and Slade made him savvy enough to never to an enemy mine situation with a villain.

By season 3 it would start with Sara fending off an assassination attempt. Orchestrated by Ras Al Ghul. Who holds a rather zero tolerance towards running away from his guild. Despite his daughter's attraction towards Sara an example needs to be made and Sara needed to be punished for her actions.

Team Arrow wanted to save their comrade so they take the fight to The League of Shadows. As cool as it was I wouldn't have Oliver fight Ras. Cause it's Ras. That would be stupid. So if he's going to take Ras down then he'd have to be smart about it. Not going to get into full details but I see the final fight involve Team Arrow vs The League of Shadows with The Suicide Squad helping out Team Arrow. Waller wanted Ras and Oliver wants to save Sara and this is the one enemy mine that would make sense. Especially since he knows Waller would be more than willing to tear the city apart to take down Ras. And The Suicide Squad exist. The way I see it, if Superman is going to be used in Supergirl then not using Suicide Squad would be hypocritical.

Note: Why Atom isn't mentioned? Because I felt he;d be better suited as a Flash supporting character.

After the crazyness of Season 3 I'd give Season 4 a one year timeskip. Around this time, Thea has started her own superhero career and Sara has moved on to form Legends of Tomorrow. As her own way to start a new chapter after ridding herself from her past as an assassin. Her and Roy made a pretty good team honestly. Laurel continues her campaign in cleaning up Star City and is eyeing the mayor candidacy. While Oliver focus his attention in running the Queen Company. Especially now that things have quieted down since Season 3. But he has Felicity to relay him intel from Team Arrow just incase.

There is more but this is just a sample of what I would have done.

Isabella "Ivy" Martel

"She's the kind of woman you'd expect to see as the beautiful consort to the corrupt generalissimo of a  collapsing Third World Country"

A noble born Chimera who is Stefan's mistress or "paramour". Despite Astra's(Stefan's Home Country) tolerance towards Chimera's their laws doesn't allow them to officially tie the knot but they still consider themselves married in more ways than any law defines. The two parted ways when she finds Stefan's business practices less tolerable but the break up was amicable enough for them to remain in contact with one another. Until now.

My Version of Agents of SHIELD

Since everyone has done their share of fix fics, including my bro Guy. Go check out his version of X-Men. It's in the development process but looks promising.

http://myowntakeonthexmenblogstory.blogspot.com/2016/09/x-men.html

And as the title suggest I thought I'd do one of my own. Now the MCU has had a lot of problems. And I mean a lot of problems. But one, series, in particular, I felt dropped the ball big time was Agents of SHIELD. It had so much promise but ended up being just....meh.

It ended up being a series with bland characters nobody gives a flip about with even much blander villains. Combine the bland and you just have a Boring Smoothie. But let's see if I can do it better.

To start things off lets talk about where the series start off? I'm going to go and say after the events of the first Avengers movie. Thanks to the events of the first Avengers movie the world has been changed in a big way and there is that lingering question that the government representatives have always wondered. What if there is no Avengers to protect the world from threats such as the first movie? Or what if The Avengers fell? Or worse, what if they went rogue? Not my words on the latter but more the governments, yet they're dicks so. The World Security Council assigned Fury to establish a special task force to not only look out for potential super threats but also take said threats out. A Shadow Initiative.

This is where the main character comes in Maria Hill.

Not Agent Coulson because he's dead. In my version Coulson dying is the first major death because in my version deaths actually matter. That and Whedon originally wanted Coulson to remain dead anyways. But the question is, why Maria Hill?

Much like Coulson she has been there since the beginning and is another individual that The Avengers are familiar with. Also in my version her and Coulson are friends. More like Text Buddies since their line of work doesn't give them enough time to be together. Outside of the fact that she's capable of leading a SHIELD team she also wanted to honor her fallen comrade.

She's not alone. The WSC wants a co-leader and while Fury appointed Maria as No.1 the No.2 is none other than....

For one this explains where in the hell Hawkeye has been and it would quell the whole "Hawkeye is useless" complaints. One thing I'll change about him. While I don't mind the fact that he has a family in AOU I just find the fact of him having a secret family to be a little out of character. Cause I really don't see him having a big family, due to his lifestyle. That is part of the reasons why he and Natasha get along so well. So the concept of him having a family is out.

This will have the fun spy adventures of Kingsman, with the over the top WTF of the later Furious films, with a little bit of Archer.

The purpose of AOS is to use this as a vehicle to establish some world building and showcase the MCU through the eyes of espionage. Rather than piggyback off the films like canon. This will be its own thing as it develops.

My Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot

Sup! Today I'm going to discuss a potential project that I might end up doing down the road. It's a reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I have followed just about every TMNT incarnation, yes even that dreadful live action TV Series. I've read bits and pieces of the original comics but haven't fully explored it. So I've decided why not try my hand at it?

The Setting

It's based in Manhattan, New York and this is a complete reimaging of the TMNT Mythos. Much like how The Dark Knight Trilogy was a reimaging of The Batman Mythos. So it is not going to be one of those reboots that tells the same story but in an updated version. This takes a more different spin on the TMNT Mythos.

The Plot

The Turtles have operated in the shadows, as part of their training as Ninjas. They have one particular rule that each of them followed. Never interact with humans. But suppose one Turtle happens to break that rule?

April's the first human that one of the turtles interacted with and that one happens to be Raphael. And after the panic from that first encounter died down the two started to bond a little. Especially when April was investigating the shady underdealings of TGRI and Baxter wanted to "silence" her so he sends in the Purple Dragons. So the two of them start to have a common enemy because TGRI holds some vital information about where he and his family came from. Also, he needs his brothers because he's aware that he couldn't take on TGRI and Baxter by himself. Eventually, he introduce April to his brothers. Naturally, they were surprised by this but once they hear Raph's side of the story they're intrigued in wanting to know about the investigation. With Mikey ship teasing the hell out of Raph and April, much to Raph's irritation.

The Antagonist

Baxter Stockman is the Disc One Final Boss. With the Purple Dragons acting as The Dragons. There will be hints of The Foot and The Shredder but as for now, they're more like The Dreaded as The Foot will only be used when Baxter feels there is no other option or when The Turtles are becoming more of a threat.

Rating

PG-13 but in a Dark Knight Trilogy style of PG-13.

This is going to be written in prose. It's also going to be done in a trilogy format. The first arc is dealing with Baxter & The Purple Dragons, The Second Arc is Shredder & The Foot, The 3rd is Krang & Dimension X. And i can promise you. None of that beam in the sky BS as far as the latter go.

Valor

What Is Valor?

Ever watched a superhero movie or a tv show and is tired of the typical superhero girlfriend cliche? Valor is the series that subverts the superhero girlfriend cliche by making what used to be a victim into not just a hero in her own right. While making her the hero of her own story.

The Plot

The character Emily Granger had it all. A good family, close circle of friends, and involved with a superhero named Savior. Then, during a space mission to test out a wormhole project, a radiation wave hit which caused her to be sucked into a wormhole and left her stranded into another dimension.

Several years later she finds herself back home and she feels like the proverbial fish out of water that is trying to re-adjust. Especially since she has returned one century past the year that she disappeared. Welcome to the 23rd century Emily Granger.

The Tone

It is a superhero series but in a science fiction setting that is going to get even more sci-fi as the series progresses. It's also my way of taking the premise of Arrow season one and put it in a sci-fi setting.

Heroes of Tomorrow: Tone

To get the idea. Also, while the series does represent heroes and a hero academy I wanted to do something a little different with that approach. The concept of Heroes of Tomorrow features students who have graduated from the hero academy and those who want to make a career out of being a hero qualify for the Hero Program and get enrolled in Pendragon Academy. Instead of teenagers, the majority of the characters are college age. With some exceptions as there are characters who are Child Prodigies, like Valentina's brother, and Cali, who is 18 years of age.

A Heroes Journey: Tone

It's like One Piece, there will be some lighthearted moments. Equipped with humor. But when it gets real, it gets pretty damn real.

A Heroes Journey Tropes

-The series takes place in a world that, after centuries of rebuild has finally recovered from a devastating alien invasion.

The Interverse and other things.

A lot of things have changed ever since I've been creating my own superhero universes. In the beginning, it was just City of Adventures and A Heroes Journey. Now it has expanded with other superhero series like Paragon, Noble Demons, and the pulp superhero series Danger Family. With City of Adventures undergoing a name changes as; "Heroes of Tomorrow"

City of Adventures Announcement

Some of you may know that COA has taken a bit of a hiatus. So I just want to address a few things in relating to that. For starters, I'm not abandoning the story. I have big plans for the series and I'm looking at seeing them through.

Second City of Adventures is undergoing a makeover. From this point on City of Adventures will be renamed Heroes of Tomorrow. Given that the focus is on the students of Pendragon Academy I say its pretty fitting. Especially with this tagline: "Dawn of A New Age"

In light of this announcement I also want to discuss what makes Heroes of Tomorrow different when compared to my other superhero works:

1. While the basic setting is a superhero series its more of a sci-fantasy series. Think of it like the Avatar Series; Which is a superhero show, in its own way. Or Dragonball
2.  With it being a constructed universe it also  follows its own rules.
3. There will be characters dressed in field uniforms but I wouldn't expect the standard superhero attire that you usually see in comics.

Danger Family Tropes

Dr.Henry Danger, renown science adventurer, and professor have traveled the world and had many thrilling adventures. While exploring various uncharted locations and met then befriended a lot of interesting individuals during his journeys. Even found love than marriage. But as society starts to become more advanced there is less need for science heroes like Henry. Some of them just retired while others use their talents to help the world become more technologically advanced.

James eventually decided to settle down with Rana, a green-skinned humanoid alien princess from the planet Zenon. And raise a family. But no matter how much society has advanced there is always a call for adventure.

By looking at it there is some Incredibles influence, with some Doctor Who. It’s also an homage to Pulp Adventure, Science, and Fantasy Serials.

Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Edition

Granted my last review of the movie was....less forgiving. After I've calmed down and watched this edition. It was average. It's not as good as MOS, a movie I'd credit for trying something different with Superman instead of trying to copy off of the Donnor films. Yet I still say DC fucked up with this movie because of the fact that Dawn of Justice is an average movie. At least in my opinion. IMHO the best Batman/Superman crossover was "Wolds Finest" from the DCAU.

If DC had at least tried to just focus on Superman vs Batman instead of adding all this other cluttered mess then the movie would have been passable. I'd still use Wonder Woman, despite my reservations and personally Gadot deserved more praise for her performance as Wonder Woman.

Eisenberg still sucks as Luthor. They should have got Bryan Cranston instead, he would have been chilling.

Overall I'm gonna give the Ultimate Edition a solid D +. It manages to clean up some of the clutter but not all of it and I do question why the scenes got cut, to begin with. At the end of the day, this is a comic book movie. There will be people that already made up their minds on if they either like, disliked, or are indifferent about the movie all-together. So to the ones who liked it and stick with their opinion regardless of who says differently. Power to ya. Everybody has a different taste. But let's not pretend that the movie is something that it's not, a flawless film. Cause it isn't. Also if somebody doesn't like the film then, for the love of God, be mature and respect that person's opinion. Life's too short to get bent out of shape over some dumb comic book film. And the same goes for the ones who don't like the movie.

City of Adventures Bios

Synopsis: Adventure lurks around every corner. Because of that, anyone could be a hero of their own story. No matter how connected or not connected they are with the main cast they each share an important role that makes up the COA Verse. No matter how big or small the part is.

Xergians

An all one-gender race of females, who live in a planet that exist within a universe that exist within space and time. A race of scientist who'd travel through different universes and planets for exploration and documentation. Probably one of the most ancient alien beings in the universe.

Influence wise they're a composite of Time Lords and Kryptonians.

Scion(Arturia North): A once resident of the Xerg race who currently lives on Avalon and has taken a career as a superhero. She's also the mother of Pendragon University's Caroline and Amelia North and adopted Cali into the North Household.

Pendragon University

The premier school where super beings go to either learn how to become superheroes or to just learn to control their abilities so that they can go about their day to day lives.

Headmistress: Dr.Gwen Shepherd-The Badass Normal among the world filled with super beings. A science adventurer who has traveled the world and across the universe, which also implies that Gwen has seen it all. The exotic locations and the dangers that lurk within, including the kind of dangers that mankind is not meant to witness. Yet in spite of it all, she has lived through it and continues to use her scientific knowledge to do good deeds. She has currently stepped down from her adventuring days and focused on guiding the next generation of heroes and adventurers.

Basically, she's who Bruce Wayne would be if gender flipped and were a legitimate science hero instead of a costumed vigilante. And with a more ideological way of thinking.

http://i.imgur.com/lKW6xRw.png

Headmaster: Sir Myrdin Vimes-The Architect of Magic, debuted with protecting the universe from things, and people, who would destroy it/rule it. Or worse. Probably the most mysterious of the teaching staff as she rarely interacts with the students or the staff as her 'busy schedule' makes it rather difficult to do so. But despite that she always have the students best interest at heart, even though her moral standard of teachings would tend to clash with Gwen's. For instance, Gwen wants the students to have an education and learn something from their stay in Pendragon University and while Myrdin agrees with that she also want to take what they've learned and use it to survive the dangers they'll inevitably face. Which make some assume that Myrdin is training soldiers instead of students.

City of Adventures Tropes

These are the tropes dedicated to my other superhero web serial City of Adventures. Not a lengthy one but, once the series starts to bloom, it will definitely expand.

General Tropes

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WorldOfActionGirls
-While the guys aren't no slouches either it's the ladies who rule the roost in this department.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ConstructedWorld
-Takes place on an earth slightly similar to ours on the surface but underneath it's entirely its own world. The earth in this series isn't even called Earth.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShoutOut
-To the Arthurian Legends mostly. The planet the characters reside in is even named Avalon.

Furia

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AmazonianBeauty
-Furia. To the point that even the female students spurned this reaction

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvenTheGirlsWantHer / http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HoYay
-Heatwave and Morgaine are nowhere close to subtle towards how they feel about Furia. The only one that was a little subtle was Caroline, whom could be chalked up to serious fangirling.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BadassTeacher
- Doesn't negate the fact that Furia is one of the most badass members of the Pendragon Academy staff.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BuxomIsBetter / http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main.BoobsofSteel
-As Morgaine points out Furia has 'Fantastic breast' and ,as narrative details, is one of the strongest heroes in the world.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Expy
-Furia, appearance-wise, is a mocha skinned Wonder Woman. And it shows! But as a whole, she's also a gender-flipped version of Superman in reputation mixed with Fem! Loki's powerset.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YoungerThanTheyLook
-Is about 18 yet build like a fully developed amazonian goddess.

Noble Demon's Character Bios

Noble Demons is an urban fantasy series that blends in both superhero and shounen anime tropes into what could possibly end up being one wacky universe.

Owen Smith an everyman scientist who, like everyone else, has a sense of purpose they want to fulfill. Owen's sense of purpose is to become a supervillain. Not just any supervillain but one of the greatest supervillains in the world. Sounds simple enough but in the supervillain game, there is competition and the competition that Owen will face is pretty brutal. Does Owen have what it takes to become one of the most nefarious supervillains in existence?

In this thread is the rundown of the cast of characters Owen has known or will encounter during his journey.

Kelly: Owen's assistant/bodyguard/dragon. Genetically created from Owen's DNA, he intended to create a female clone of himself. Primarily because he wondered what he'd look like as a woman. What resulted instead was a 12ft Gorilla with super intelligence and super strength.

Kelly is the glue to Owen's moral fiber and helps keep Owen's villain operation running smoothly.

Appearance:

Her field uniform resembles that of Evangelion.

The Trinity(City of Adventures, A Heroes Journey, and Danger Family Adventures)

I've been out of the loop as far as superhero comics go, every now and then I'd catch some indy comics that would catch my eye, while also try to catch up with what is going on in mainstream comics. And based on what I've read I really have no interest in going back. Also a combination of burn out and RL stuff has hampered me from investing in both superhero comics and films.

Despite this setback it has inspired me into creating a few superhero universes of my own; City of Adventures, A Heroes Journey, and Danger Family Adventures.

City of Adventures: The inspiration behind this is from the tv series Young Justice, with a touch of Invincible. Both of those series had great ideas that involve the coming of age of teen heroes who will eventually grow up and see that being a superhero is more complex than what they've expected. City of Adventures is a satire of growing up. There is no status quo. The teen heroes will deal with the challenges of growing up and society changing around them. How they'll adapt to it is up to them.

The closest series that came to mind in regards to that was Watchmen. In Watchmen the characters, some of them, grow old and as society changes so do the heroes. Some for worse while others still try to keep an idealistic mindset.

A Heroes Journey: While it has a superhero character this series is more of an homage of anime and old school science fiction tropes. For instance the series takes the concept of a harem anime but updates it in the manner that the participants involved look better in the process. It also showcase a grim reality concerning alien invasions and superhero works. At their competent the aliens still win despite the heroes assembling, it has to take a full united front of the Earth's defense and several decades of planning for them to strike back and win. And it answered a question that not many alien invasion scenarios answer, why cant the villains and heroes join forces against an invading threat?

Danger Family Adventures: This is a genre throwback to the Pulp Adventure Era. Its basically what if Johnny Quest is a female who grew up and had a family of her own?

Reconstruction is the key theme of these works. It takes apart the genre they're based on, understand how it works, then put it back together again. The superhero genre has always been taken apart but why not put an effort in putting it back together?

Eiyū No Tabi(A Heroes Journey): Series Rundown

Tagline: "There are no Gods, just heroes."

Synopsis:

Remember those alien invasions from superhero comics where the heroes would unite and defeat the evil aliens? In A Heroes Journey, the same scenario applies but the difference between this and fiction is that the aliens won. When an alien threat becomes too powerful for even a group of heroes to stop then what is the other alternative? Team up with the super villains; let's face facts, you have some villains value living on earth as much as the heroes.

Regardless of the team up, that didn't mean the heroes and villains defeated The Valken Empire overnight. It had to take two decades till the remaining resistance manage to defeat The Valken's and draw them back. When everything has settled the heroes and villains help repair the earth.

Would that mean that the heroes and villains go back to their old ways and status quo prevailed? No. After years of joining forces and protecting what is left of the Planet Earth, they both realized that none of the old rivalries mattered in the grand scheme of things. So they formed an organization called The Federation; An organization that helps advance the Earth for the better and ensure that it remains safe from threats like The Valken Invasion.

In the latter half of the 25th century, the earth has progressed thanks to the advancements of the super technology processed by The Federation. And now a new generation of heroes have risen. Damon Sullivan is among the new generation, he has moved to Haven in hopes of establishing a superhero career. But he'll soon discover that the road to becoming a hero won't be an easy one.

Author's Note: As Heroes of Tomorrow is a superhero series but it's core setting is a Science Fantasy, Eiyu No Tabi is a superhero anime series that plays as a straight up military science fiction. As the tagline depicts there are no Gods of mythology origin but only heroes with super abilities.

Volume 1: You And Me, We Come From Different Worlds

Chapter 1-Home Sweet Home

Synopsis: Meet Dr. Damon Sullivan, a former resident of Metro City, who has traveled to Haven so that he can establish a career as a superhero and as a scientist for Astro Labs(A sub-division of Astro Corporation). There he met a young woman named Leia. A cheerful yet quirky individual, whom they've met at a noodle stand. It wasn't loved at first sight, more like friend at first sight. Like lightning, the two instantly struck a friendship between the two.

Damon discovered that she's Haven's resident super-heroine.  An investigator who investigates extraordinary and super events. Like Damon, she's also employed by Astro Corporation. The two clicked so well that they both agreed to go on a date.

It wasn't the usual, going out to movies, kind of date either. Especially when it involved two heroes: in their first date they travel the stars, seeing which of them could manage to out-race Hayley's Comet. Damon was dressed in Omni-Man attire. It is a dark blue lightweight armor that enables him to combat powerful ex-beings(Super Beings of Extraordinary Origin) given the fact that he doesn't have any superpowers of his own. Leia is a, as she describes, Magi-Senshi(Magical Warrior). She finds the term Magical Girl demeaning. During the second date, a mad terrorist named Ted Bomber had rigged the train with enough explosives to level a city who has hacked the train full of passengers to explode the minute it reaches Kiyone. Damon and Leia have to save the train filled with passengers while making sure the train never reaches the city of Kiyone.

He asked ALICE(Think a gender-flipped Jarvis) to locate the explosives inside the train. Meanwhile, Leia did her transformation as Sailor Dark.

Note: If one is going to do a romantic date involving two superheroes then why not go all out and bring excitement into it?

Omni-Man asked ALICE to pinpoint the location of the explosives, its at the basement of the train.. Sailor Dark meanwhile announces to the passengers to remain calm and that the heroes have gotten it under control.

Sailor Dark opened the train door and use her magic to gently levitate each passenger, one by one, and place them on the ground safely. Omni-Man made it down to the basement section of the train. He searched the area till he eventually found the bomb. It is a cube shaped black object that is about 18ft and Alice detects the nanos inside. Omni-Man contacts Sailor Dark who informed him that the passengers are safe. After that news Omni-Man tries to get Alice to hack into the nanos but something is blocking her advances. Ted Bomber has the place properly secured. Alice announced that the bomb had 20 seconds in counting.

Omni-Man told Sailor Dark that he found the bomb. She got to his location and the two see they have to come up with a plan as they only have 15 seconds till the bomb goes off. Omni-Man may lack powers but if there is one thing he has is thinking under pressure. He suggest to direct the explosives upwards. Thus preventing any casualties.

Sailor Dark took note then used her magic to teleport Omni-Man off the train. She levitated and phased through the train. Sailor Dark magically lifts the train off the tracks and threw it in the air. It massively exploded but no damage, both collateral nor civilian, was made.

Sailor Dark sighs in relief.

"My heart was going as fast as that train too"Omni-Man levitated down next to her.

"So Ted Bomber did this, huh" Sailor Dark asked, looking up.

Omni-Man nods

Sailor Dark grinned at him."Want to go kick his ass?"

"Oh hell yeah!!!" Omni-Man fist bumped Sailor Dark

The Chase Siblings

Awhile back, I'd say during the early 2000's, I created a concept of characters called The Chase Siblings. The original idea at the time was that the family was going to be like The Fantastic Four, a family of superheroes with different super powers. Who use said different super powers to save the world, while also using their scientific knowledge in the process. In a way they were the first science heroes I've created. However, what sets them apart from the other F4 influenced Super Family, its that the four are siblings instead. With the oldest, Alex and Anna, being the parental figures.

They never had the chance to really take off as the original CAU was....Insane. It wasn't until CAU Prime was when the Siblings really came out of their shell. Admittingly with some changes, instead of inspired off of the Fantastic Four they were more based on the Superman Family; Superman(Alex), Anna(Kara), Elizabeth(Power Girl, Obviously), and Cody(Connor). CAU Prime brought alot of fond memories and it was great to see the siblings grow within that universe. I

I have used the siblings in various other universes but at the end of the day the CAU Prime will always be home to the Chase Siblings and I stand by retiring the Siblings in that universe.

Yet every now and then I've felt the urge of bringing them back. But not as they were in CAU Prime. Those versions I felt had the right establishment and me taking them out of that universe just wouldn't feel right. So instead I just preferred to use the OG version of the Chase Siblings. The F4 inspired version. With different individual powers and all

Alex: Super Strength

Anna: TK/Telepathy

Cody: Shapeshifting

Elizabeth: Elemental Manipulation

As far as where they'll end up? Well stay tuned to one of my projects and find out

City of Adventures Series Outline

The Goal: City of Adventures as a whole is a satire of the evolution of the superhero genre. But done in a proper way..

Volume 1 & 2

Since the series is mainly in the perspective of the teen heroes the first volume deals with the teen heroes go on a bunch of wacky adventures. The kind of wacky adventures one usually see in the silver age of comics.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/TheSilverAgeOfComicBooks

To some teen heroes they get to live out their dream. Fighting super villains, saving the world, the adoration from the crowd they get just by saving the world.

The maximum issues for each volume would be two issues. The first issue would be the teen heroes dealing with a Mad Scientist whose all about the evolution of mankind and wants to use the DNA of superheroes to produce said evolution. And that is where the clones come in. The clones in general are pretty much teen versions of the student's superhero mentors. The clones of the mentors with super powers maintain the powers their mentors have while the ones who are just plain badass normals are granted super powers.

The payoff of the arc is that we get to find out who has been financing the mad scientist and making said scientist able to conduct her research.

Note: Dr.Vetinari- The big bad of the first two volumes. Appearance wise she's what you'd get if Marnie from CAU Legacy were a super villain. with long hair and Xavier level psychic powers. Her goal is to alter the same old status quo by uniting various super villains while also destroying corrupt politicians she feels are harming the global evolutionary process. Some of the villainous stuff she has done is a necessary evil for her to get what she wants.

Harry Potter and The Boy Who Lived

Authors Note: This wont be a complete retelling of Harry Potter, you'll find out during the prologue. The best way to describe this story is that it takes place in a world that is completely alternate from the canonverse. You'll see some nods to canon but the story will undoubtedly shift as it goes on.

Chapter 1
"Nothings The Same Anymore"

Another sleepless night. But he didn't scream, or yell. It was the same nightmare. One of his mother being killed. Then a tall shadowed figure loomed over him, raising out its skeletal fingers, then he wakes up before a flash of green light erupted from his hand..

Its 3:00AM and Harry is upstairs in his room, meditating. A relax technique that helps calm him down. He heard a door open slightly, he peeked to see his cousin Violet creeping in. Closing the door behind her. Violet Dursley, the younger sister of Saffron. Which makes her the middle child when you add Harry into the equation.

She noticed Harry levitating from his bed."Wicked! I was wondering when you'd catch up. Another nightmare"

Harry, glanced down at the bed, then nods."The same one"

"Well, I'm here to help you fight it."

"You really don't have"

"Would you do the same, in my position?"

"Without question"

"Then why are we having this debate" Violet smiled, climbing up on the bed, then meditated. She floats up till she's at levitating level with Harry.

"So...based on our abilities, are we superheroes?" Harry asked

"I was going to say Jedi"

Harry scoffed."Superheroes are more awesome than Jedi's"

"Don't make me smother you"

Future Potential Projects

As a writer I sometimes have several ideas that develop in my head for other projects while writing down a story I'm working on. So what I'm doing is jotting down future projects that I might do when the motivation strikes.

Jikan Ryodan(Time Brigade): A toku inspired mini-series that could spawn into a full on series that showcase a group that consist of scientist, adventurers, and soldiers who travel through the time-stream and even alternate realities that explore and chronicle every aspect of time, space, and the multiverse itself while saving it from forces that wants to destroy time and reality or use it for their own personal gain.

Its, in my own way, Legends of Tomorrow(done well) meets Sliders meets Doctor Who. With some Stargate.

A Moment With Death: A renown scientist just finds out that he only has about a month to live. And so he does the usual errands people like him usually does before they leave the earth. Such as spending his final moments with his friends and family. Then one day he meets someone whom he hasn't met since childhood. Death. And he eventually ends up living his remaining moments converse with Death and even embark on a few adventures with the Grim Reaper while even developing a friendship between the two

My ideal reboot series

Since everybody else is doing it I might aswell hop onboard that reboot train, the series in question?

Thats right! Meet Uzumaki Mai, just a regular high school student whose main goal in life was to get through high school in one piece.  That is until she one day ran into a familiar artifact that grants Mai superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for her Mai's dealing with an object beyond her control and she's just a teenager with no wise old mentor to train her on how to control her armor. Unless if you count her armor, that can telepathically communicate with her, as the wise old mentor?

So Mai went from a regular high school student to a regular high school student with an alien weapon and dangerous alien monsters out for blood. As if her life weren't stressful enough :)

City of Adventures: Razo

Backstory: *yawns* Really? You that interested? *sigh* whatever? Lets get this over with. I'm the son of a super-villain Garo. Real douchebag if you ask me. My two older brothers aren't that much better. Between my family and growing up in Stull City: which survival of the fittest is the one rule to go by there. It wasn't easy. So I ditched my family at the age of 9, they wanted me to follow the super-villain lifestyle but I wasn't feeling that. And they were a bunch of assholes.

Met James and Jamie and became a member of a gang they're forming; not what you're thinking. We are mostly a gang of vigilantes that protect the neighborhood of Stull and most of Haven City.

I met Brodie during school. We weren't exactly friends, mostly classmates. It wasn't till Brodie was assigned as my tutor till we officially clicked. Brodie's pretty cool, what I liked best is he..well she isn't the judging type. Then met her other friends, Jack, Gail, and...*sighs dreamily* Rai(Gail's older sister). Someday, Rai. Someday. I like women who can kick ass, what can I say?

I don't have any super powers and I'm not exactly the boy genius like Jack is. All I have is my keen survival instincts. The fact that I'm still alive I say its working out pretty well. You know the most fucked up part? After seeing my friends and my new family in action, maybe being a superhero wouldn't be so bad.

Into The Darkness

Sup I'm Myrdin Vimes, a pseudonym I go by because...I'm shy. I'm here to talk about a supernatural noir web series called Into The Darkness.

Into The Darkness is an urban fantasy series that takes several homages off of urban fantasy, noir, and other stuff. It chronicles the life of a Private Investigator named Violet Veraine who operates in Castle City, Illinois. And in her experience as such a Private Investigator she has seen her share of crazy supernatural shit.

Keeping A Villain While Keeping A Protagonist Competent

When I look at some of the complaints on Arrow it makes me glad that I've stopped watching the show since the early part of Season 3. And part of it is this little phenomenon concerning popular villains that TV Tropes would call The Joker Immunity. A term, thanks to Arkham City, I find a little outdated. I'm personally going to call it Karma Escape Clause till I think of a better title.

What KEC is its when you have a popular villain the writers would come up with various ways to ensure that he lives, even at the expense of a heroes character. For instance Batman would go out of his way to save The Joker despite all the countless times he has hurt everyone. Which in turn put Batman's competency as a hero into question. Based off of this video, it almost makes him look less of a hero and more like a guy that is taking his childhood issued out on those who reminded him of his lost childhood

That is a different topic entirely. But the topic of today is to keep a recurring villain while still keeping a protagonist's character intact. I'm going to use one of my works as an example.

In Into The Darkness we have Violet. A Private Investigator who solves cases and fights evil spirits, while also acting as an agent of heaven. Long story on the latter. Violet, as far as she's concerned, doesn't see herself as a hero. Eventhough she'll protect people from the monsters that lurk in Castle City, either supernatural or actual monsters. On the other side of the corner you have Victoria Volkoff, the Queen of The Criminal Underworld in Castle City.

Lady Volkoff is Violet's shadow archtype in every way. Like Violet she has the same beliefs in protecting the people in Castle City and will go flat out Mama Bear if those they love are hurt. Yet she's more of an antagonist than an evil villain. Because Volkoff's own brand of morality clashes with Violet's. In an essence its a gender flip of Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty. Interestingly enough Sherlock Holmes is in this.

Yet one of the reasons why I personally felt they work so well is because despite the conflict in moralities they also share some similar views aswell. Its like Volkoff represents what Violet could be if she became an antagonist. What also helped is that outside of what she did to Canny, Volkoff didn't really do anything to a human being. That didn't have it coming anyway. Lets say she's not Rhaeslog levels of reprehensible.

Also if you look at Into The Darkness there is this key theme that is building. No matter whom you are there is always something much worse lurking out there. Which makes the dynamic between the two even more complex as they're both women trying to survive Castle City. And because there are worse things lurking in the horizon that also means the both of them must take several levels of badass to ensure their survival.

Keep this in mind. You'd hardly see both women try to pull an enemy mine situation. The only time it happened was to save Eve whens he was possessed by Canny. There are reasons. One Eve is Volkoff's goddaughter, a fact that Violet is unaware.  And Canny has been killing innocent civilians on their turf. So with that you have an enemy mine situation that makes sense. Outside of that they rarely if ever team up because a team up would put their reputations at risk.

And should there be a case that would lead directly to Volkoff of course Violet would go through lengths to stop her and even have her arrested. Yet when she'll do so she does it while keeping her humanity intact. And Volkoff knows it will be only a matter of time before they cross paths. Until then they're just two people trying to survive in a world that could be, at its worst, a cosmic horror story.
