Inspiration
Part of the inspiration is that I hated how the X-Men are being used in the main Marvel Universe. As of recently they've become no better than the villains they've fought. To be fair I got into the X-Men back in the 90's when their animated tv series aired. It defined the X-Men to me. A rag tag bunch of misfits who would try to save the world eventhough the world doesn't like them very much.
They were the underdogs of the Marvel Universe in no matter how much the world tries to knock them down they'll always get back up and still try to make the world a better place. That is whom the X-Men should be.
Vision
To get an idea in how the universe will be established I've laid out three ground rules.
1. The character evolves as the world does. There is no status quo or reset button when it comes to this universe. Some characters grow old and die then their legacy continues with another character, hence the title X-Men Legacy.
2. Every action has consequences. Much like real life whatever choices a character makes has consequences that could impact the world, no matter how big or small the consequences is.
3. Sometimes there is shades of gray. The villains that the X-Men will come across are more complex, some will be unapologetically evil while some are more neutral then you have those who are above such alignments.
Arcs
The arcs in question will be more stand alone. Will we see The Phoenix? Most definitely. Does this mean we will get a Dark Phoenix arc that is similar to the comics? No. The Arcs in question will be established to the point that they'll be as captivating as the ones in the comics while having its own voice in the process.
