If there is a movie I'd consider to be a timeless classic then Evil Dead Trilogy would be it. I'd like to say that Evil Dead was Buffy in a sense that they both take a horror concept that is the final girl and completely flips it into a refreshing direction. And they both played with the Chosen One theme alot.
In Hail To The King its a bit of a semi-sequel/crossover fic where it takes place several decades after Army of Darkness.
The Story
We all remember the ending of Army of Darkness and that iconic quote at the end but what exactly happened to Ash afterwards? Well there wasn't any ticker taped parade or anykind of appreciation for his accomplishments. Ash remains in a steady job at S-Mart and enjoying his little "retirement" once things got quiet. Then a high ranking official of an private agency called The Initiative recruits him to assist in combating supernatural forces. So Ash is once again thrown in the thick of things
Having watched the series Ash vs Evil Dead that also takes place several decades since the original movie its version of Ash is a survivalist yet while on a bit of a dense side. However with my version of Ash he became a little more Guile in terms of survival. Not in a super genius aspect but mostly the kind of guy that will use any means to survive and sometimes he'd just make up things on the fly. The Ash in this story is still the same deadpan snarker we all know and love but he's also a bit more gruff and a little cold.
An interesting aspect to his character is that he's currently ageless thanks to falling in a lake that gave him eternal youth. To him he's never aware of that and just consider the ageless part as a side effect of traveling back in time. While he looks young he has the mindset of a hardened veteran
He's not what one would be considered a superhero or a hero period. He doesn't go out of his way to look for fighting supernatural threats but most of the time he has to: either its because the supernatural threats comes to him or to save someone from it.
The Characters
He isn't alone in the fight against evil. He has an partner named Whistler who is an immortal with a very mysterious past.
Another one is Gia, a young woman whom Ash met by chance and plays a key part in the main story Ash is involved in.
Death acts sort of as Ash's spirit guide and quite frankly is one of the few friends Ash has got.
Amanda Waller: The person who recruited Ash and is, in his own words, the "The Forbidden Fruit"
Antagonist
While he hasn't interacted with them personally they still pose as a potential conflict with Ash as the story progress.
Spike/Drusilla/Christine: The Unholy Trio that has formed an odd unholy union. They're vicious and at times unpredictable. While they don't have much of a history with Ash they do have their own individual history with The Immortal known as Whistler.
